Currently, I am open to all opportunities presented--whether freelance/contract projects or full-time. I currently live in Scottsdale, AZ and would be open to relocating for the right, full-time position. So, a little about the professional me...
Creatively driven, strategically focused.
As a creative director...
There are many hats one wears--interpreter and extractor of clients' needs and visions, articulate communicator (and great listener), mentor and teacher as well as being the overall voice of the creative visual and/or design process. They've all been a part of my professional life for more than 10 years.
With all the designers I work with, I am usually hands-off unless the particular situation dictates otherwise. I don't view designers as the implementers of my ideas. Rather, I help cultivate ideas from the group and curate individually when necessary. It's my feeling that giving people the right amount of responsibility, with its inherent accountability, allows people to take ownership over what they are doing and as a result, are more willing to ask for support--i.e., ask for collaboration. As I mentioned, I am a firm believer in collaboration and absolutely promote that type of environment.
I also enjoy the teaching aspects of being a creative director and prefer to teach by example. I think you can learn a lot while watching someone else think (work)--watching their decisions, watching their process, watching the paths they take while designing. I take a great deal of pride in helping designers develop their ideas and get real satisfaction in helping to make someone else's idea a reality.
As a designer...
As visual designers, we all want to work on cool stuff with great imagery and build interesting environments--who doesn't want that--but I equally value the challenges inherent in intensive information design. I think balance between types of projects is essential. I also feel that if you are not struggling some while working, you are not learning...and if you are not learning, you are just reproducing something you already did (and I don't ever want to stop learning).
As a designer, essentially, my pursuits are to create high-end, well crafted, thorough solutions designed and created with integrity, strength, diligence and sophistication--no matter what the project is. And those words--integrity, strength, diligence and sophistication--are not just words to me. They actually DO resonate deeply. I also look at the larger picture--from the company's identity on down. I am acutely aware of corporate identity and view each project as an extension of the identity which, to me, goes beyond the immediate successes and measurements of the particular project.
My ideal environment...
If I could assemble my ideal environment, I would fill it with smart, funny, talented people...and plants. Not plastic plants either. Oh, and toys, tripods, cameras, a wood back-scratcher and maybe a few of these
insect hedgehogs. But it's the people you work with and the gratification you receive when you push a rock-solid, innovative solution to the public...that's where it's at. That's what I'm looking for...a great group of people producing some really great work.
